Step 1: Connect to your router in one of two ways:
- 1st way: Plug the yellow LAN cable into one of the yellow ports at the back of the router. Connect the other end of the cable to the Ethernet port on your laptop or desktop.
- 2nd way: Turn on the Wi-Fi on your laptop, phone or tablet and connect to the Wi-Fi network called D-Link. Use the WPA key printed on the label at the bottom of your router as the password.
Step 2: Open your web browser and type in the IP address of the router (192.168.1.1 or 10.0.0.2 by default).
Step 3: Enter your default username (admin) and password (admin or blank by default), then click OK or Log In to continue.
Step 4: For security measures, it is advised you must change your default login username & password after your initial setup.
Step 1: You should have received a SMS/Email from your Internet Service Provider (ISP) with your PPPoE/Internet account details.
Here is an example from Telkom of how the details will look.
Telkom sms with PPPoE/Internet account details
Step 2: Insert the username@telkomsa.net into the username field on the Configure PPPoE/setup Internet connection step in the setup wizard
Step 3: Insert the password into the password field below the username field in the setup wizard
If you did not receive an SMS/Email with your PPPoE account details from your ISP you will need to ask your ISP to resend you the details.
Step 1: Check that your telephone cable is connected correctly on the Telkom Line Box
Step 2: Check that your telephone cable is connected correctly through the filter/splitter into Router
Step 3: If the DSL line icon keeps flashing for more than 5 minutes or stays off, it means there is a fault on the DSL line.
You should contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to report a line fault.
Step 4: If the internet icon remains red, it means your PPPoE/Internet account details are incorrect.
You can contact your ISP and ask them to reset/resend you your PPPoE account details.
Telkom users can also try to manually reset/retrieve their PPPoE account details. (See how on the next question)
Step 1: SMS “Password” to 012 321 0215
Telkom sms reset details
Telkom will SMS you back with options to either reset your email password (option 1) or your access password (PPPOE account password – option 2).
This SMS will display your PPPoE username if you forgot it.
Step 2: Reply with the letter “2” for Telkom to send you a new PPPoE password
Step 3: Enter your new PPPoE password into the password field on the Configure PPPoE/setup Internet connection step in the setup wizard
Step 4: If Telkom does not respond to your SMS they may have an incorrect contact number for your account.
